French II
French II builds on the first-level course. Students increase their vocabulary, are introduced to the past tense, and improve conversational, reading, and writing skills. Students continue to study the culture of French-speaking peoples.

Semester 1 – Unit 1:
GOAL #1: Communicate in French.
- Engage in interpretive listening in French.
- Understand short conversations or descriptions. (1.2.a)
- Engage in presentational speaking in French.
- Describe aspects of daily life using phrases & simple sentences. (1.3.a)
- Provide basic instructions on how to make or do something using phrases & simple sentences. (1.3.d)
- Engage in interpersonal communication in French.
- Interact with others using simple language in everyday situations. (1.1.e)
- Engage in interpretive reading in French.
- Follow short, written instructions and directions supported by visuals. (1.4.d)
- Engage in presentational writing French.
- Request information to obtain needs or wants using phrases & simple sentences. ( 1.5.d)
GOAL #2: Gain knowledge and understanding of French cultures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the French culture.
- Compare everyday social etiquette within the French culture to their native culture. (2.1.b)
- Identify common beliefs, attitudes & characteristics within the French culture. (2.1.d)
GOAL #3: Connect with other disciplines and acquire information.
- Acquire information and recognize the distinct viewpoints that are only available through French and its culture.

GOAL #4: Develop insight into the nature of French language and French culture through comparisons of language and culture.
- Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons between French and English.
- Use cognates to enhance spoken & written French. (4.1.a)
- Demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the French culture and their own.
- Compare & contrast tangible & intangible products of French & native cultures such as clothing, housing, foods, toys, music, myths & folktales. (4.2.a)

- Show evidence of becoming lifelong learners by using French for personal enjoyment and enrichment. (5.2)
