In French I, the student begins to understand, speak, read and write French. Conversational skills using the present tense and practical vocabulary are emphasized. Students also begin to study the culture of French-speaking peoples.

Semester 1 – Unit 1:
Goal 1 Communicate in French
- Engage in interpretive listening in French.
- Understand simple words and phrases about daily activities. (1.2a)

- Engage in presentational speaking in French.
- Present personal information about self and others using words and phrases. (1.1a)
