Da’Mya’s Digital Addition
Access Launch: What Launch classes have you taken?
Da’Mya Dickson: I’ve taken Launch classes during the summer for a long time, and last year I took a few during the school year, too. I’ve taken Drivers Ed, Health, PE, Psychology of the Holocaust, Chemistry Honors and English III Honors.
Access: What’s your favorite thing about Launch?
D.D.: I like that we can submit assignments at any time. I’m involved in a lot of extracurricular activities, so it helps that I’m able to work ahead sometimes and catch up sometimes. And I like taking them during the summer when I can, because I have more room in my schedule for the next year.
Access: What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
D.D.: I play volleyball, I run track, and I’m the basketball team manager. I’m really always busy with sports—when I’m not playing for school, I play club volleyball from December to April. And in the summer I have summer leagues. I’m also in NHS (National Honor Society), JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and Cabinet, plus A+ Tutoring.
Access: Wow! You stay busy! How do you spend your time when you’re not playing sports or at school?
D.D.: I volunteer for Crosslines Resource Center during Thanksgiving and Christmas. And when I have time, I love watching movies, doing puzzles, and going to the gym.

Access: Describe your perfect Saturday.
D.D.: I would spend some time with my friends—a big group of friends. And then I’d end the day with my family, probably watching a movie or something.
Access: What’s your favorite movie?
D.D.: I really like Jumanji. But not the old one—the newer one with The Rock. It has to be with The Rock!
Access: If you could only take one item on a desert island, what would you take?
D.D.: Hmm. That’s a hard one, but probably a taco pizza.
Access: A pizza? Wow! Is that your favorite food?
D.D.: Probably! Pizza or pasta—any pasta. I love Italian food!
Access: What’s your most-prized possession?
D.D.: I’d have to say my medals. I’ve gotten a lot of medals from volleyball over the years.
Access: Do you use social media?
D.D.: I’m on Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok. I also have a Facebook, but only because my club volleyball team only posts the game film on Facebook, and I want to watch the film!
Access: What are you most looking forward to about your senior year?
D.D.: I’d say graduation, but it’s kind of a love-hate thing at the moment. I’m not ready for it! So instead, I’d say all of the other fun things seniors get to do. I’ll get to go to Washington DC for JAG, which is kind of cool, and I signed up for a trip with Hillcrest to go to Greece, so I’ll be going to Greece on my spring break!
Access: Are you taking Launch classes next year?
D.D.: Yes. I’m taking AP Lit & Comp and College Algebra.
Access: What are you planning to do after you graduate next year?
D.D.: Actually, I just verbally committed to play Volleyball at Avila University in Kansas City. So, I will be continuing my volleyball career there!
Access: What’s your dream job?
D.D.: I want to be a forensic photographer.
Access: Is there anything else you want to say about Launch?
D.D.: I would tell everyone to try out Launch, even if they just try it for a semester. It’s good to take an online class, and I think it really helps prepare you for the future.
