Launch Virtual Learning Celebrates 400th Missouri School District Partnership
Based at Springfield Public Schools, Launch prides itself as being Missouri’s public K-12 virtual education provider. The organization celebrated reaching 400 partnerships—as well as honored several retirees—at an end-of-year celebration at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13.

Launch began as Springfield Public Schools (SPS) Online in 2012 with the goal of serving SPS students virtual courses. In 2017, the program transitioned its name to Launch and began partnering with additional public, charter and private schools statewide. Today, the vast majority of Launch partners are public schools, with a growing number of charter schools, private schools and organizations also joining the network.
“We are thrilled to have reached this milestone and to partner with 400 schools across Missouri,” says Dr. Nichole Lemmon, Director of Launch Virtual Learning. “At Launch, we believe that opportunity shouldn’t be determined by a student’s zip code. Every student deserves access to high-quality courses, experienced Missouri educators, and the chance to pursue their goals, whether that’s credit advancement, career certification, or enrichment in subjects that inspire them.”
Launch currently serves tens of thousands of students each year with more than 120,000 course enrollments. The program has more than 100 course offerings including core academic subjects, Advanced Placement courses, dual credit courses, career-focused programs through Launch Missouri’s Workforce, and applied STEM learning through partnerships with programs like Project Lead The Way. In addition, Launch provides a wealth of expanded student services, including synchronous “Launch Live” courses, comprehensive counseling, and support for many types of exceptional learners.
By working hand-in-hand with Missouri districts, Launch gives schools the flexibility to offer full-time virtual options, single-course enrollments, and specialized programs, helping districts meet the diverse needs of their students.
“This milestone reflects the trust and collaboration we’ve built with Missouri school districts over the last eight years,” Dr. Lemmon says. “We started with a core group of 19 regional schools, and now we’re at 400 statewide. We’re beyond honored to support schools and families statewide and excited to keep expanding the possibilities for students in every corner of Missouri.”
